New Pattern And Syllabus Of CLAT 2020

Are you a law aspirant? Common-Law Admission Test (CLAT) is the most coveted of all the law entrances in India after Class XII. CLAT journey started in 2008 and today more than 55,000 students write the entrance every year to secure a seat in one of the participating National Law University. Major changes have been announced in the CLAT 2020 exam pattern by the consortium of NLUs. The blog will walk you through the changes in the pattern and syllabus of CLAT 2020.
Changes in the Pattern
· Reduction In The Total Number Of Questions:
The number of questions has been reduced to 150 from the earlier figure of 200. Earlier, students had to answer 200 questions within 120 minutes which used to put students under a lot of mental stress and made it difficult to attempt all questions. The new reduction in the questions will reduce this pressure and allow them to manage their time better.
· Change in question types:
The new pattern of CLAT will have comprehensive based questions on Quantitative Techniques, English, Current affairs, Legal Reasoning and Logical Reasoning. The descriptive syllabus might remain the same but the question types have undergone a major change. Aspirants will be tested on the proficiency in reading & comprehending texts and inferential reasoning based on the same. These in a way have legal aptitude connections.
· Sectional splits remain the same:
As per the recent notification and sample papers released by the consortium of NLUs the weightages across various sections will remain more or less the same. Thus Current Affairs and Legal Reasoning will each roughly account for 25% of the questions (i.e. about 35-39 questions) while English and Logical Reasoning will have 20% weightage each (around 28-32 questions). The remaining 10% (or 13 to 17 questions) will feature in Quantitative Techniques.
Importance of the Updated Pattern
Makes You Systematic:
The new exam pattern will help the students in understanding their strengths and weakness. It also helps in managing time while attempting the exam. Managing time across the various sections becomes critical, especially since comprehension based questions will be more time-consuming so one must plan to spend proportional time in each of the sections.
It Saves Time:
Students can be time-efficient only if they are aware of the exam pattern. With the revised exam pattern students must streamline their preparation and prepare effectively. Also as mentioned above, while time needs to be apportioned for all sections, based on individual strength/weakness across the various sections the time allotted to each individual section must vary in order to maximise the overall score.
