Job Opportunities after B.Sc Nautical Science



The B. Sc Nautical Science is a course which is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, which falls under the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. Bachelor of Science in Nautical Science is a 3 year academic under graduate program which is concerned with the study of basic aspects in the area of navigation. On successful completion of training at a reputed Marine Engineering College the candidates are eligible to take up jobs in Deck Department where you will become a Deck Officer who is in charge of the navigation of the ship.





The officer joins in the rank of 3rd officer who is responsible for keeping safety equipment -the lifeboats, firefighting and signaling equipment in top condition; acts in the capacity of signal officer and assists with cargo work and is subsequently promoted to the rank of 2nd officer who is in-charge of checking all mails and keeping the navigational equipment and charts in good condition and also assists in navigational watches at sea and cargo watches at port. He is then promoted to Chief Officer, the right-hand man to the Captain and oversees all the cargo planning, assists during navigation, ensures that discipline and order are maintained, allocates duties and work for the maintenance and upkeep of the ship to the Deck Cadets and deck crew. The Chief Officer is then promoted to become The Captain of the ship.

The candidate who has completed pre-sea and post-sea training from a Marine Engineering College certified under the Directorate General of Shipping has a vast scope in foreign countries.
